How to Avoid Procrastination
I often find myself doing work at the last minute, sometimes even during other classes the day it’s due. Procrastination is a terrible habit that I’ve been working hard to get rid of; here are some tips that help me avoid it.
1. Make a list. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed with work and continuing to put it off, making a list of everything you have to do will help you feel more organized. By knowing exactly how much you’ve got to get done, you’re more likely to do it. With larger projects, break up the workload into smaller task lists so they don’t feel as stressful.
2. If it can be done in under five minutes, do it now. This is the most helpful advice I’ve ever gotten from a teacher. By getting all the small tasks over with, you begin to feel much less overloaded with work.
3. Keep a calendar. Create a calendar to keep track of school assignments and personal appointments. If you know what is due when, you can easily manage your time. Calendars can be kept in your phone, but I think having a huge desk calendar works best for planning out your time.
4. Do the hardest tasks first. After completing all the quick things on your to do list, move on to the most time consuming or hardest tasks- the ones you dread the most. These are the items you are most likely to put off because you simply do not want to do them. By getting them done in a timely manner, you feel more accomplished and are eventually more productive.
5. Set goals. Remind yourself why you are doing all this hard work! By setting goals for yourself, long or short term, you have something to work for- which makes the work seem more meaningful and more manageable.

Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely Elly Malone for her amazing artwork!

Find her tumblr here
Find here shop here

What materials do you use for your art?

I generally use just a grey lead pencil for an outline then go over that with a Nikko finepoint marker.

Do you have any art inspirations?

I don’t necessarily have any ‘inspirations’ that relate to my work. I really admire artwork from the impressionist era (Van Gogh, Monet etc) I think it’s beautiful. The account @hellviticus inspired a lot of my early portraits and freya flavell inspires my little cartoons sometimes.

When did you start making your artwork?

I have been an avid drawer since a very young age and the constant interest helped me develop the skill. It wasn’t until last year that I started my Instagram account and then later thought to sell my prints.

What made you want to start?

There has never been something that started my drawing that I can recall, I remember the first good portrait I ever completed was of Selena Gomez just because she was on a magazine cover sitting next to me.

What’s your favorite piece of art that you’ve done?

I don’t think I can name one favourite piece, but I am very proud of my Miley cyrus portrait, and I love my ‘bedroom’ and ‘space babe’ designs.

How can you describe your artwork and techniques?

I would describe my artwork as a quirky twist on traditional ideas/images.

General advice you’d like to share to any aspiring artist out there?

If I could give advice to any aspiring artist it would be…
Do not give up, draw what YOU want/like JUST GIVE IT A TRY :)
I don’t consider myself an ‘artist’, I just like to draw :) Absolutely anyone can do that x

As I sat on my cousin’s bed whilst she cleaned her room, I noticed a beautiful pink book cover poking out from under the covers. I asked her what it was and she replied with “Oh it’s Miranda Kerr’s book, the one I got for Christmas!” This immediately struck my attention. I realized that I knew next to nothing about Miranda Kerr, only that she was a supermodel with a really cute baby. Upon reading the acknowledgements page and a poem/passage entitled “You”, my perspective on life changed forever! The next day I headed to Chadstone with my mum and searched high and low for my own copy of the book. I had no idea what it was called, just that the cover of it was a beautiful pink. I finally tracked the book down and found out the title was Treasure Yourself. As soon as I got home, I raced to my bedroom to begin a book that would change my view on life forever.
Treasure Yourself is a biography like no other. It is not entirely devoted to recounting every detail about Miranda’s life. Instead, the book is split into 13 sections, each exploring a different challenge or experience that life can throw at anyone. Miranda varies what she writes in each section, connecting her own experience in that area of life, with a time that we may of experienced that particular problem.
The first section is called “Life Lessons”. It is mainly a summary of Miranda’s life and her modelling career. It gives us an insight into Miranda’s life, and explains how modelling isn’t really all the glitz and glam. As the book progresses, the reader gains insight into how Miranda overcomes issues that everyday situations can throw at us, her eating habits, balance, getting over jealousy, learning to love others, and about herself and how she stays connected to the real world and not letting her career overpower her life. Although the book is about Miranda’s life and how she overcomes things, I find that by her sharing her thought processes and problem solving techniques, Miranda is actually teaching and sharing powerful knowledge that each and every young woman can transfer across into their own lives.
By opening up this book, the reader is immediately is entranced into the idea of self worth and the idea of loving themselves. The book communicates that to live life to it’s full extent and happiness, we first have to love and treasure ourselves. We must realize that everyone is unique, and no two people are the same. But even though we are different, we are all equally beautiful. I think Miranda’s quote, “A rose can never be a sunflower, and a sunflower can never be a rose. All flowers are beautiful in their own way, and that’s like women too. I want to encourage women to embrace their own uniqueness.” portrays this idea perfectly.
At the conclusion of the written sections, there is a mini gallery of photos from Miranda’s personal collection. The age gap varies from when Miranda was 3, to her current day age (30), with each photo being so very beautiful. After the mini photo gallery, there is around 50 positive affirmations, accompanied by an amazing drawing of a butterfly and a few other affirmations that complement the main one. I personally find these affirmations extremely helpful in maintaining a positive and healthy mindset! Each day I flick to a random page and read the affirmation, process it, and strive to live it out all day - it really can work!  In general the book adds up to one ultimate goal: showing you that you are worthy enough to “treasure yourself”. The book encourages and empowers the hero inside of us to shine, with it bringing realizations that we are all unique, individual and fucking fabulous.
I recommend this book for every girl or woman who walks this earth. We need to realize how beautiful and precious we really are, and how treasuring ourselves is vital in today’s world.
